FRUITIVE: SIMPLE, CLEAN, PLANT-BASED EATS IN D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C.
You’re going to need your imagination for this one. The food photos from Fruitive and some other truly great shots I took during our adventures in D.C. vanished, along with my camera. 😭

A few tears were shed when I realized I’d lost it on the flight home to Los Angeles. And as I write this, I’m bummed all over again. For the fall season, Palmer Alley, home to one of Fruitive’s two locations, was decorated with a colorful canopy of umbrellas. Dozens of yellow, green, orange, red, and purple parasols intersected with strands of cafe lights. A picturesque setting. But here, check out these mediocre photos of my cold-pressed juice instead, all that’s left from my phone.

Southwest Quesadilla

Every dish at Fruitive starts with a simple belief: you deserve to know exactly what you are eating.

Fruitive’s menu is 100% plant-based and organic. They partner with local farmers and suppliers who care about the purity of their soil and offer products that are both sustainable and nutrient-dense. In addition to cold-pressed juices and “liquid meals,” aka smoothies, their menu includes açai bowls, salads, sandwiches, waffles, overnight oats, wraps, soups, and pizzas.

I chose the Southwest Quesadilla—whole wheat tortilla, cashew cheese, wild rice, black beans, corn salsa, red pepper, caramelized onions, and pico de gallo, served with guacamole and cashew garlic sauce. 😋

Although I lean toward “junk food,” cooking few meals at home, I value the healing power of plants. Exhausted from travel and a busy schedule, I paired my quesadilla with their Immunity Blend. With only four ingredients—apple, lemon, ginger, cayenne—the sour tonic with a kick offers plenty of body benefits.

For a preview of the Fruitive menu, here’s my top-four wish list:

🌱 Sweet Berry Waffles: strawberry, blueberries, whipped coconut cream, pure maple syrup
🌱 Veggie Pizza: dough and sauce made from scratch, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives (no, thanks), spinach, cheese
🌱 Broccoli Cheddar Soup: broccoli, carrot, onion cashews, nutritional yeast, white miso, vinegar, salt, nutmeg, black pepper, cayenne, house-made vegetable broth
🌱 Tuscan Kale Wrap: kale, sweet potato, quinoa, broccoli, chickpeas, onions, basil pesto, hummus, cayenne
